It is difficult not to admire the Americans' technological experdse in both aeronautic and automotive fields, but their researchers sure get up to some funny pranks. This week a Press release from the Merix Chemical Company of Chicago dropped on my desk. It deals with Addaroma concentrated fragrances. Appt ently Merix makes concentrate scents for plastic, rubber and paper to produce 12 different fragrances which var.} from mint and metal to leather and grass hay.
We are told the fragrances are so potent that one gallon can give scent appeal to products covering .a quarter of a million square feet. Just think about it : dust carts could smell like violets, even pencilled in log sheets could smell less fishy. Oh there's no end of fragrances which might be produced and any number of applications. But it seems to me that the Whole thing would only add confusion to a world which is already much too confused and, we are told, short of raw materials.
