Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by high vehicles and loads could be prevented if bridge signing was improved. This is the conclusion which the Freight Transport Association has come to following a survey of 75 companies.

Problems pinpointed by the replies were incorrectly stated headroom, lack of advance warning, bad positioning, unequal headroom and difficulties for long vehicles where the roads dipped under bridges. The PTA has told the DoE that these are the areas where action should be taken.

The Association has also suggested that the DoE should reissue its leaflet High Loads after some updating and then distribute it with 0-licence and hgv driver licence documentation.

In answer to the DoE suggestion that vehicles above a certain weight limit should have their maximum unladen height marked, the PTA pointed out that there was no necessarily a direct relation ship between unladen weigh and vehicles/load height. Diffi culty would be created in till case of articulated outfits witl trailers of different heights i the DoE made its suggestion statutory requirement.

It was essential that thE driver be made aware of thE total height of his vehicIE when loaded, but the method of doing so should be left tc management.
