Commercial Vehicle Auctions is synonymous with plant and trucks, but it made its first foray into van sales last week. Kevin Swallow reports.

CVA has opened up another income stream by holding its first dedicated van sale. The opening event, at its Doncaster site, attracted an 80-plus crowd dominated by trade and dealer buyers. Matt Brookes, newly appointed as general manager, says he is "over the moon" with the 57% conversion rate: "There's still some selling to do hut we're pleased with that. Vsfe're really happy with it as a start to get in 70 vans."

Stock going under the hammer included 55 and 05-plated Citron Berlingos; 05 Mercedes Sprinter 311 high-volume panel vans and a 54-plated 311 flatbed; and a new generation 55 Volkswagen Transporter. They helped to generate £52,000.

"It's going to take a few sales to build but very soon we hope lobe offering 150 vans every other Thursday with a mixed bag of stock from leasing companies, main dealer part-exchanges, and councils," he adds.

Vans are Brookes' speciality:he has managerial experience at British Car Auctions and Manheirn Auctions.
