Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The United Road Transport Union (URTU) is balloting members working for express parcels distributor Amtrak on Strike action.

The ballot follows Amtrak's refusal to recognise the union, even though URTU claims to have a majority of members within the company. Voting is due to end on 6 February with a result expected soon after.

A spokesman for URTU has refused to rule out the prospect of strike action but says the anion is waiting for the result before deciding on its next move.

"We should really have union recognition by now but we are waiting to See how our membership feel on the issue," he adds. "URTU has always said it wants the best possible relationship with the company and would rather they recognised us and got into talks."

• Members of the Transport and General Workers Union (MG) working on P&O's fuel distribution contract with Shell have been balloted on industrial action in their long-running pay dispute.

A previous vote rejected P&O's pay offer by an overwhelming 334 votes to one. A result on the latest ballot is expected soon after 12 February.
