The DETR has given an immediate go-ahead for 39 road schemes with conditional approval for a similar number which will be allowed to start following preparatory work. Local authorities are considering how to fit these projects into their transport programmes and cannot give precise start dates. Listed below are 10 of the largest schemes which have been given unconditional approval: they are all expected to get under way in the next two years.
