Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

1. It pays to shop around, and not just for fuel. It may be possible to cut your phone, electricity, and gas bills by switching suppliers.

2. Take another look at the number and size of trucks you run. With a bit of reorganisation you might be able to deliver the same volume of goods with fewer vehicles.

3. Invest in driver training. The result will be lower fuel bills and fewer expensive accidents.

4. Unless they are major industrial users, most operators will find that their scope for making savings by switching to alternative water suppliers is limited. However they can reduce their bills by, for example, fitting their truck washers with recycling equipment.

5. Closing your workshop and contracting out maintenance could cut your overheads, but don't be hasty—it might be possible to transform it into a profit centre.

6. Review the specifications of your vehicles. Fitting rear-steer axles to your trailers, for example, will greatly extend tyre fife, leading to reduced tyre bills.
