"Early R-reg examples are not as easy to get hold of"

H & L Garages is based in Hull with outlets throughout East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Used vehicle sales manager Paul Mackie has a stock of up to 50 trucks in his charge, ranging from the Vito van through to the Actros.
"Early R-reg examples of the Atego are not so easy to get hold of but if a 20ft GRP box will do then, surprisingly, S-reg are more plentiful at the moment," he reports. "It seems that Mercedes did some big fleet deals that year. There are not many with 24ft boxes and curtain-sided bodywork yet and there are practically no tippers or fridges to be had.
"The 817 Atego with the more powerful engine is the preferred model if one can be found, but 150hp is really sufficient power at 7.5 tonnes. Sleeper cabs fetch a premium of about 21,500 but air suspension is less in demand than steel at this weight because it detracts from the payload capacity. An R-reg example can cost between 116,000 and £18,000 depending on the body type.
