m The AN rags classify dangerous goods into five types: EX/II and EX/Ill are explosives; FL covers flammable liquids with a flash point below 61°C and flammable gases; OX identifies oxidising chemicals; AT refers to hazardous goods not covered by FL or OX carried in quantities over 3,0001it.

The level of protection required on a vehicle is determined by its ADR classification.

Speed limiters and ABS are required on most classes of ADIR vehicle, and they must be able to maintain a steady speed of 30km/h on a 6km downhill gradient of 7% without resort to their service brakes.

Diesel-fuelled cab heaters must be removable and must not have timer-operated automatic start-up controls.
