I have been driving heavy goods vehicles for the past 40 years for various firms, and I have made many friends and many journeys. Unfortunately, I began to feel unwell a couple of months ago with back pain and vomiting. I was admitted into Gwynedd Hospital, Bangor, then to Liverpool Royal Infirmary where I have been diagnosed with cancer.
As I lay in my hospital bed, I have had time to think about all sorts of things, especially family and workmates.
My most recent employer is Gareth Jones, transport manager for Gwynedd Shipping of Holyhead, Anglesey. I want to thank him personally for his kindness and his endless telephone calls to bath hospitals— he is a genuine and loyal friend. Also his brother Merlon, who I have known for many years.
I want to thank them both from the bottom of my heart for their lifetime friendship and loyalty, through times like this. I appreciate it.
Thank you also to the other drivers who have visited me, lads that I have known for more than 30 years.
Unfortunately, I have made my last journey in a wagon, and it breaks my heart, but I want all my friends and workmates to know that I think of them and only wish I was out there with them on the road.
