Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A POLL which says that 71) per cent of lorry drivers speed has been attacked by the Department of Transport for being irrelevant and biased.

The Dip also angrily denies that it is considering a lengthy reply to the survey — which was conducted for Shell's Diesel Driver magazine by Briarwords Public Relations and Marketing Services, or that its specialists are taking the results seriously.

Both these claims were made in last month's issue of Diesel Driver. The survey claims that 71) per cent of the UK's truck drivers claim to break the law each day by driving over the 60mph hunt, and that 28 per cent of those said that employer pressure meant that they had to speed, or commit other offences.

And 46 per cent of drivers think that if their driving hours are increased there will be more, accidents, according to the survey.

"What began as a straightforward 12-point survey proved to be a pressure valve

tOr the drivers who, it would appear, are seldom counselled for their views," the maga7ine says.

But the DTp has condemned the poll and says that it cannot comment further. "Fin sorry but we can't see our way clear to comment on a survey of 500 drivers out of a total of 1.6 million," a spokesman told Commercial Motor.

With only drivers being asked the questions, the answers were hound to be biased, it added.
