I-1 A SERIES of tailboard loaders has

been added to the range of vehicle loading and unloading equipment made by H. C. Pope Ltd., 8 Elm Street, Northampton. Capacities available are 8, 16 and 25 cwt., and the platform sizes are 4 ft. 0 in. by 2 ft. 6 in. for the lightweight model and 6 ft. by 3 ft. for the two heavier models.

Power is taken from the vehicle gearbox through a combined power take-off and hydraulic pump unit, which operates one, two or three standard Hipope ram units, depending on the capacity, to supply the required thrust. A manually operated control valve allows for fine adjustment and the platform can be held firmly in any position. A pressure relief valve is incorporated to prevent damage through overloading.

The units have been designed to provide simplicity of fitting and cost £155, £180 and £205 respectively. Fitting charges vary from £10 to £30 depending on the capacity and the type and condition of vehicle to which the lift is fitted.

THE latest book in the Cassell Motor' ing Series is Austin and Morris Mini Estate Cars and Vans. It is written by Sydney F. Page and published by Cassell and Co. Ltd., 35 Red Lion Square, London, W.C.1, at 9s. 6d.

As with many publications of its type, the book describes in simple terms mechanical details of the B.M.C. Mini estate cars and + ton vans, being well illustrated and showing how to carry out all necessary adjustments.

Power-plus Walleharts

AFURTHER six lubrication charts

and wiring diagrams in the form of 2 ft. 6 in. by 1 ft. 11 in. wallcharts are now available from Leyland Motors Ltd., covering Leyland Power-Plus goods vehicles.

There are now 33 wallcharts covering various Leyland chassis and copies are available free to operators of the models concerned from Service Literature Department, Leyland Motors Ltd., Chorley, Lancs. To those who are not operators of the particular models the cost is 3s. 641. each.

Small Trailers

1-.1 A RACK to allow loads up to 26 ft. long to be carried is a feature of a new range of small independent trailers introduced by The Richard Maurice Equipment Co., Portsmouth Road, Cobham, Surrey. Other features are independent rubber suspension, a hollow rectangular tubular chassis, space frame construction and tilt platform loading.

The range includes two-wheel and four-wheel close-coupled designs with capacities of from 10 cwt. to 3 tons. Optional accessories available to increase the applications include ladder racks, loading ramps and geared winches. Selfloading equipment is offered on all models.

On Eleetries

SIXTH in the series of motor manuals published by Chapman and Hall Ltd., 37 Essex Street, London, W.C.2, is one entitled "Modern Electrical Equipment" by Arthur W. Judge. The price in the U.K. is £1 5s.

This is a well-produced book with many illustrations in its 368 pages which contain full information on vehicle electric equipment and systems including American designs. Emphasis is on practice more than theory.

For Branding

TW0 new electric branding irons have been introduced by the Uno Co. Ltd., 41 Prescot Street, London, E.1. They have been designed to give a clear impression on any brandable material such as timber, hardboard, flat cardboard, leather, rubber and felt.

The irons are light in weight and well balanced. They are heated by pencil elements which can be changed easily and which provide a diffused, constant and even heat over the whole surface of the branding plate. Changing the plates involves undoing one screw only and removing an end cap. The elements are replaced by removing the branding plate.

Two models are made: Model No. 13 with two pencil elements and having a branding area of 7-5 in. by 1-875 in. (14-05 sq. in.), a heating time of from 10 minutes according to the application and a current consumption of 740 watts; whilst model No. 27 has four elements, has a branding area of 7-5 in. by 3-75 in. (2812 sq. in.), the same heating time and a current consumption of 1 480 watts.
