Recently appointed works manager of the Perkins Group main diesel engine factory at Eastfield, Peterborough, Mr. F. Straw has taken office as chairman of the Peterborough National Productivity Year committee.

Herr Otto Budde, director of the Magirus-Deutz commercial vehicle manufacturer Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AG, of Cologne, has left the company to take up a position in the office equipment industry.

Nominated by Leicester and County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Leslie H. Smith, deputy general manager of Leicester City Transport Dept., has been appointed to be a member of the Transport Committee of the Association of British Chambers of Commerce. • For some years he has served on the traffic committee of the local Chamber of Commerce and he has also for three years been chairman of the traffic committee of the Municipal Passenger Transport Association.

The board of directors of Black and Decker Ltd. has been reorganized. New appointments are: chairman and managing director, Mr. Robert Appleby; deputy managing director, Mr. W. 0. Bell; and director with special responsibilities for administration in Europe, Mr. J. C. Brooman. Sir Joseph Latham, a director of A.E.I. and George Wimpey and Co. Ltd., has joined the board as an outside director.

Mr. Maurice F. O'Reilly has been appointed to the newly created post of director of public relations for Goodyear International Corporation. From Akron, U.S.A., he will direct corporate public relations activities throughout the world.

Aerostyle Ltd., of Acton, has appointed Mr. Frank E. Webb and Mr. Peter Fleming as directors. Five alternate directors also directed are Mr. A. White, Mr. S. White, Mr. E. Crisp, Mr. R. Briest and Mr. H. Capper.

Mr. Michael Bourke, who is assistant divisional traffic superintendent of the Birmingham and Midland Omnibus Co. Ltd., has been appointed assistant traffic manager of the Trent Motor Traction Co. Ltd., of Derby. He is to take up his duties on February 1.

Obituary

WE regret to record the deaths of Mr.' VI' F. Cook, Mr. James Dickinson, Mr. J. E. Hogan, Mr. C. W. E. Kerr, Mr. James O'Leary and Mr. James Paton. Mr. Cook, who died on January 14, was a prominent figure in the road 'haulage industry in the Hull area. He was managing director of C. A. and F. Cook Ltd. and chairman of the Triangle Group of companies until his death.

Mr. Dickinson, of Gunnerton (Northumberland), founder of J. Dickinson and Sons, bus proprietors, who operate in the North Tyne area, has died in hospital at the age of 72.

Mr. Hogan, Torquay area manager of Edmunds, Walker Co. Ltd., has died after a short illness. He joined the company in 1948. Mr. Kerr, general manager, automotive division of E. R. Howard Ltd., has died after a long career in all parts of the motor trade, retailing and manufacturing.

Mr. O'Leary, who was a lecturer in the economics of transport at Rathmines Technical School for many years and a founder member of the Institute of Transport, has died at the age of 71.

Mr. Paton, a director of Paton Brothers Ltd., Renfrew Ferry, passenger service operators in the Paisley-Renfrew area, has died aged 60. He was very well known in transport service circles in the area where the firm is one of the remaining independent operators.
