Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

It is easy to see why trade-specific social networking sites are experiencing huge growth across the road transport lndustry.

For everything from job-seekers looking for advice or working for a specific company, to small businesses looking for decent suppliers, forums are fast-becoming the ideal way to gan first-hand information quickly and easily.

For firms that engage with forum users, there are also tangible benefits. One fuel outlet operator is doing just this.

After searching the TruckNet UK forums, it was disappointed to read some negative comments from drivers over their facilities.

It took the decision to post comments to drivers, asking what it needed to do to improve.

By listening and talking to those who make the decision to either stop at its garages or one further down the road, it has already started to make simple changes to tempt drivers in.

As a result, the firm is now addressing the small issues, like recognising that a certain supplier of sandwiches is preferred over another, and increasing Its stock and range, and big issues such as realising that female drivers are becoming more common place within the industry and ensuring adequate provision for their needs are there.

It is also looking at small-but-cheap reward systems, such as a free coffee with every fuel fill-up over a certain amount. Furthermore, it is ensuring staff are aware of the time pressures that drivers are often under and making sure their visits are handled efficiently. Larger issues such as third-party catering are also being looked at following various drivers comments.

Of course, bigger changes take time, but already the drivers feel they are being listened to, and as their concerns are addressed, they are already showing a far more positive attitude to this operator's sites.

This shows that forums are relevant to almost every area in business, and are becoming even more so. Ignore them at your peril.
