Hauliers across the Midlands can apply for financial help and advice from several sources. Training and Enterprise Councils iTECs) can subsidise staff training. Birmingham Business Link—made up of bodies including Birmingham TEC and the chamber of commerce— offers training and business advice. To qualify, firms must be at least two years old with five to 250 employees.

Training grants are also available from the European Social Fund, which offers up to 450/0 of training costs.

Additionally, firms could be eligible for grants from the European Regional Development Fund. Although some hauliers do get assistance, priority goes to job-creation schemes in the manufacturing sector. However, this scheme clearly benefits service companies in the region,
