the Eastern RHA that he will look into claims that farmers are "poaching" haulage business by using new 14-tonne payload "supertractors" to transport their own loads over long distances.
The RHA says farmers should be using hauliers for this sort of work: it wants the 1991 0-licence regulations,which allow the use of tractors for transporting farm products, to be changed. The National Farmers Union says it would welcome reports from hauliers on farmers who break the law.
Lincoln RHA reports that hauliers in the county are facing up to 25% higher running costs to avoid weak bridges. But the DOT says work to strengthen the 70 bridges will not be completed until the UK 40-tonne derogation ends in 1999.
