ACLUB for drivers and mates working on Commer and Karrier goods and passenger vehicles is to be inaugurated on January I by Commer Cars Ltd. and Karrier Motors Ltd. Membership will be open to full-time, part-time and relief drivers and drivers' mates, and will be entirely free.

Amenities available to club members will include free life insurance, free legal advice and employment service, while a truck badge and a quarterly magazine will also he supplied free. There will be preferential car insurance and social events will be .held in different areas.

NEWS IN BRIEF Change of Name: Cloy Motors (Europe) Ltd. has changed its name to Guy Motors Ltd. The original company to he called Guy Motors Lid, was founded more than 50 years ago.

Taskers Continue Expansion: Following the launching of a new factory in Cumbernauld, Scotland. in 1963; Taskers of Andover (1932) Ltd. have now acquired premises covering a site of 11, acres at Skelmersdale. Lancs. The new premises will provide a sales and service centre for spare parts and repairs, and additionally prime movers will be equipped with fifth wheel or doublesafety automatic coupling gears, and a limited stock of standard trailers will be kept available for immediate delivery. The premises are expected to he open for business at the end of next March.

MI Extension: Proposals to extend MI towards London have been carried a stage further by two schemes by the Minister of Transport. One of these modifies a scheme made in 1961 for building two connecting roads from the motorway at a point alongside the Midland Region railway, line near Bunns Lane, Mill Hill, to Watford Way. The second scheme provides for an extension of the motorway itself by about '1 mile from Bunns lane to a point south of Fiveways Corner. This extension will include a flyover at Fiveways Corner for northbound traffic to the motorway or Watford Way. The MI ultimately will be continued as far as the, North Circular Road.

Manchester's Biggest Road -Scheme : The Minister of Transport has made a grant of £2,870,000 to Manchester County Borough Council towards the £3,820,000 estimated cost of constructing the second stage of the Mancunian Way. -This is the largest single road scheme yet undertaken by the Council and will form a new 3.120-yd. road link across the southern fringe of Manchester's central area. It is designed to take traffic between the industrial areas and Yorkshire towns east of Manchester, and the Manchester Docks. Trafford Park industrial area and Liverpool to the west or the city.

Diploma Successes: A diploma for technical efficiency in retreading has been introduced by the Retread Manufacturers' Association and awards were recently made to seven successful candidates in the first examination.
