rOMMERC1AL VEHICLE exports

for October, at 11,629 units valued at £6,721,081, showed a substantial increase over those for the previous month-9,091 units (£5,520,104).

During the month, 21,798 vehicles were produced, of which 10,200 were for export and 11,598 for the home market. The weekly average was 5,450. Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types numbered 21.118 (12,001 under 15-cwt. capacity, 8,072 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 1.045 over 6 tons).

Passenger-vehicle production reached 623 units, of which 402 were singledeck and 208 double-deck motorbuses and 13 trolleybuses. The number of battery-electrics was 57.

In the first 10 months of the year 195,600 vehicles were built, 91,506 going for export and 104,094 to the home market. Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types totalled 189,467, of which 98,635 were under 15 cwt. capacity, 78,278 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 12,554 over 6 tons.

During the same period, 5,669 passenger vehicles were built, 3,595 being single-deck and. 1,976 double-deck motorbuses, and 98 trolleybuses. Battery-electrics totalled 464 and pedestrian-controlled types 799.

In the first 10 months of the year 95,995 vehicles (£57,654,419) were exported. In addition 3,030 used commercial vehicles (11,302,732), 79,148 agricultural tractors (£31,254,606) and parts and accessories to the value of £61,684,652 were shipped overseas.

NEW SERVICE DEPOT IN NEWCASTLE

D1STRIBUTORS for Dodge and Trojan vehicles and agents for Perkins engines, North Eastern Motors, Ltd., opened new premises at Railway Street, Newcastle-on-Tyne, last week. These cover 10,000 sq. ft. and are fully equipped for servicing commercial vehicles. A feature is the sunken workshop connecting the vehicle-inspection pits. The entrance and exit are 15 fr high to accommodate big vehicles, and the floor has been reinforced to carry weights up to 30 tons. _

The Lord Mayor of the city and the Northern Licensing Authority were present at the opening ceremony. The managing director, Mr. P. M. Colvin Smith, said that he welcomed the freeing of road transport and hoped to provide a first-class maintenance service.
