Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Is depreciation costing you dear? Want to save money? Then buy a Navara — it's at the top of the future residual chart.

The bar has been raised in the pickup market with the new Navara from Nissan claiming top spot in the future residual chart.

The all-new Navara 4x4 (CM,14 July 2005) is according to Glass's Guide, worth almost half of its purchase value after three years and 60,000 miles*.

It pips equivalent vehicles from its closest competitors in this sector. Mitsubishi,Toyota and Ford. In financial terms if you splash out £18,195 on a 2.5dCi Outlaw double cab it will be worth £8,531 three years later.

According to Nissan: That compares with the Mitsubishi L200 4x4 Animal Double Cab that is worth £7,974 (40%) and the Toyota Hilux Invincible 280VX 4x4 Double Cab £7,887 (44%) after three years."

Andy Picton, light commercial vehicle editor at Glass's Guide, says the launch of the new Navara has thrown down the gauntlet to other manufacturers in this sector, moving the pickup market onto a new level with specifications that wouldn't go amiss in any SUV:"Based on these observations and that the new Navara is the first of a new generation of 4x4 pickups on the market, the prospects for its residual values look strong." The Navara now shares a lot of parts with the Pathfinder sports utility vehicle, which is blurring the lines between SUVs and pickups.

Research by Nissan into the European market has revealed that the market has three defined sectorsfleet market, small business and leisure. And the overall volume has more than doubled over the past 12 months to no less than 165,000 units.

Further evidence from Glass's Guide shows that over 24 months and 40,000 miles the same Navara model will be worth 54% of its original cost price, compared with 46% for the Mitsubishi L200 and 50% for the Toyota Hi lux.

Francis Bleasdale,Nissan's contract hire and leasing manager, says: -Both the fleet and retail markets have responded very positively to the Navara since its launch and the new model is better equipped and has more power than the outgoing model.

"All the residual value guides and major fleets have had early access to the new Navara and the strong residual positioning is proof that everybody holds the vehicle in high regard." • *Price for vehicle sold on the open market, classed as disposal in Glass's Guide.
