Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

At auction it's the added extras that draw top money for 4x4s. George

Alexander, chief CV editor of Glass's Guide, gives us the lowdown.

At auction its the 'lifestyle' pickups that are producing the best bids: leather interiors, air-con, alloys. lamps and other optional extras are sure to attract decent offers.

Further down the food chain it's proving difficult for vendors of unadorned, functional vehicles.

'Lifestyle' vehicles performing well include Mitsubishi Warriors and Animal L200s.

The limited supply of double-cab Nissan Navaras (see pages 70-71) is helping prices, although older examples with higher mileage and in poor condition are struggling.

The reduced volume of single-cab pickups on the market is helping fetch good prices, with Toyota's Hi-Lux performing well.

Top-of-the-range imported doublecab pick-ups are in demand by buyers who want high specification. Ford's Ranger pickup performs well most of the time, al though late-year standard examples find the going tough.

The Ranger's doppelganger, the Mazda B2500 Series 4x4 pickup, is rare on the open market, so decent late-year double-cab examples are performing strongly. •
