The company was hampered by debts and an over-reliance on its domestic German market for sales at the turn of the century, but operating profit at its commercial vehicle division have risen by no less than €70m during the first half of 2005. Its truck division posted a €180m profit, compared with €109 million in 2004.

The truck division continues to be the main engine for growth across the MAN Group, outperforming all four of the German giant's other business interests.

The MAN Group's over-reliance on its home market for growth has also been addressed. Business outside Germany was up 40% on the first half of 2004 (16% if the MoD order is excluded), while domestic orders rose lust 3% during the same period.
