EDINBURG H-BASED Clockwork Transportation was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £548 for using a vehicle that was not specified on its 0-licence.

`Ihe company admitted using more vehicles than the maximum authorised on its licence when it appeared before the Marylebone magistrates.

Prosecuting for VOSA, Anthony Ostrin told the court that a rigid vehicle with a gross plated weight of 7,490kg was stopped in a roadside check. It was loaded with removal equipment and driven by a director of the company,John Courtnay Morrison,.

Inspection of the 0-licence identity disk being displayed in the windscreen of the vehicle indicated that the licence had expired nearly three months prior to the check date.

A representative of the Scottish Traffic Area Office had confirmed that the company was the holder of an 0-licence, but the vehicle concerned was not authorised for use on that licence on the day of the roadside check.

In a letter to the court the company apologised, saying it thought the vehicle was covered under its Scottish licence. Since that time it had held a meeting with the Traffic Commissioner in Eastbourne, after which it was granted a licence for three vehicles based at Wandsworth, London.

The magistrates fined the company £400 with £148 prosecution costs.
