by Jane Sayer • A Network Logistics depot has been awarded a pay increase, the first since the introduction of productivity-related pay earlier this year.

About 60 drivers, warehouse and maintenance staff at the Brighouse, West Yorks depot have been offered the equivalent of a 2% wage rise.

Marginal improvements in terms and conditions have also been given after improvements in fuel consumption and frequency of delivery drops.

Parent Transport Development Group wants Network Logistics depots to show better productivity and fuel consumption before negotiating individual agreements.

The 60-plus staff at Brighouse have been balloted on the offer and the result is expected later this week.

According to Peter Smith of the Transport and General Workers' Union: "We were originally told the drivers at Brighouse would not get an increase, they would only get fuel economy saving bonuses. But following negotiations the company agreed to 2%, although it will be paid as a supplementary payment every week."

A TDG spokeswoman says an informal agreement has been made with Network's Birmingham depot, but as yet no details of this are available.

She adds that a TGWU national officer is going to have talks at Cumbernauld on 7 September, but there are no developments at the Avonmouth, Mold and Barking depots.

fl TDG subsidiary Linkman Tankers has won a national distribution contract with chemicals manufacturer Laporte ESD.

It will be responsible for delivering a range of detergents and disinfectants to major dairy groups, drinks manufacturers and food processors.
