Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HOME market demand for new trailers is boosting profits at York Trailer, which reports a more than threefold leap in its net profit for the first half of this year.

Compared with the same period last year, the net profit for the year to June 30 this year is up from £83,000 to £258,000, on turnover up from £11.5m to £11.8m. Operating profit (before interest) was £398,000, up from £257,000 in the first half of 1983.

For the whole of last year, York made a £506,000 net profit (£813,000 operating) on turnover of £23.4m.

Not only is home market demand booming, but the company reports the largest backlog at its Northallerton plant since the boom year of 1979. It expects its Anthony Carrimore hydraulics division to return to profit later this year.

But Carrimore's business has been hit by depressed demand from export markets in Middle East and Africa.
