GEOFFREY PARKER, managing director of the Port of Felixstowe since 1976, has now been appointed chairman and managing director.

Mr Parker, a main board member of parent company European Ferries, is also chairman of Larne Harbour and managing director of Townsend Thoreson's Felixstowe and Irish sea services.

Joining the board of the Port of Felixstowe are George Blackball, Robin MacLeod, Derek Peters and Robert Hadley.

Mr Blackhall, general manager for the past eight years, is appointed to the new position of deputy managing director. A Master Mariner, he joined the company in 1967 as assistant port manager and was also operations manager.

Mr MacLeod, who joined the company in 1974 as operations manager, is appointed operations director with responsibility for port operations and engineering, marine and port equipment, research and development. Before joining the company he was operations manager at the Port of Preston and originally worked for the Port of London.

Mr Peters becomes sales and marketing director. He joined the port in 1970 and has previously been deputy container division manager, operations manager and latterly sales and marketing manager. He is a director of Felixstowe Port Consultancy Service, and will continue to be responsible for business development, consultancy and advertising services.

Mr Hadley, previously chief accountant, becomes finance director with additional responsibility for computer development, secretarial matters and administration staff. A chartered accountant he has been with the company for five years.

European Ferries chairman, Kenneth Siddle, who has stepped down as chairman of the Port, remains on the board as do John Briggs, Jimmy Ayers, John Parker and Larry O'Donnell.

In a separate appointment, John Northfield, chief engineer to the port, is appointed engineer and technical services director of Felixstowe Port Consultancy Service Ltd.
