Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Ferodo Brake Alert, the truck and trailer brake wear monitoring system, has won a Prince Michael Road Safety Award.

Brainchild of brake lining manufacturer Federal Mogul Aftermarket UK, the system has a sensor which replaces one rivet in every brake shoe so when wear levels are critical, a dashmounted warning light is triggered.

Steven Norris, Road Haulage Association director and chairman of the PMRSA says: "This simple device, which can be retrofitted, is very welcome at a time when trucks are under the road safety spotlight." The award was presented to Federal Mogul by Nigel Griffin, personnel director at Wincanton Logistics, a major sponsor of the awards.
