• In his report to the annual general meeting of the British Electric Traction Co Ltd the chairman and managing director, Sir John Spencer Wills, intimates that the holding company's profits for 1970 rose by Lim to Sm. Of this amount £597,000 of the total is attributable to BET's road trans port interest. The gross percentage increase in profit is 10.4 per cent and the chairman estimates a similar increase in the 1971 figures.
BET has a 41+ per cent interest in United Transport Overseas which derives much of its profit from the African continent. However, the chairman reports that operations of the UTO are progressing in Australia and the Common Market countries.
