Des Ponsonby, the boss of a collapsed Midland haulage company, has denied there is anything underhand in another of his firms taking over the running of around a dozen of his trucks in their original livery.
All 30 employees from Birmingham-based DJ Ponsonby were made redundant last month after it built up losses of more than 1200,000 ( CM12-18 September).
But Ponsonby, who Is also a director of Birminghambased Highcare Solutions which owned the collapsed business, says he has simply been hiring the vehicles on a short-term basis.
The Traffic Area Office says Highcare Solutions was granted an 0-licence on 20 September this year. Ponsonby says: "There is no kind of subterfuge going on. We were running around 25 vehicles and we kept about 12 to 14 of them on." He explains that the vehicles have been hired to cover deliveries originally handled by Ponsonby on behalf of Highcare.
Sean Creston, the Ponsonby administrator from Grant Thornton, says the chances of unsecured creditors being paid are "pretty remote". A creditors' meeting was due to be held on Wednesday (23 October).
