Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BRITISH Leyland has moved ahead in the battle for commercial vehicle sales in the UK. Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders last week shows that during September BL sold a total of 4,961 commercial vehicles, 32.1 per cent of the market. This compared with figures of 5,403 sales for September 1974. Overall sales of goods vehicles fell from 19,443 in 1974 to 15,453 last month.

Ford's share of the market fell from 31.85 per cent last year to 29.66 in 1975. Both Chrysler and Volvo were among manufacturers who lost ground, though Bedford managed to increase its share.

In the important over 3f tons gross market total sales fell by almost 2,000 vehicles to 43,397 in the January-September period this year compared with the same period in 1974. The cumulative figures for the months up to September this year, shows that, among British makers, British Leyland, ERF, Foden and Seddon all lost sales while Bedford, Ford and Chrysler increased their share.

Lack of comparison figures for 1974 makes it more difficult to assess the situation of the Continental importers, but their aggregate sales fell from 4,989 in the period up to September 1974 to 4,129 in the same period this year.
