Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

0 NE OF the most useful types of motor vehicle engaged in the shipiepairing and engineering industries is that utilized for electric welding. Repairs to any part of a ship can be speedily effected whilst the vessel is loading or unloading by means of electric cables led from the motor vehicle on the quayside to the damaged part of the vessel requiring attention. The illustrations published on this page show two types of these vehicles, both of which are Tilling-Stevens netrol-electrics. The wagon owned by Messrs. Harland and W-olffs, the well-known shipbuilders, of Liverpool and Belfast, has a subsidiary Tilling-Stevens engine installed in the van for driving the welding apparatus, a system which presents some advantages.

The British Are Welding Co.'s vehicle employs the same motor for working the welding plant as it does for propulsion. This company have a fleet of about 14 vehicles, 10 of which are :of Tilling. Stevens manufacture.

Places as far distant as Falmouth, Carnarvon, Maltby, Llanrwet and. Carlisle have hive been visited by the vehicle shown in our picture for the undertaking of -jobs contracted for at Liverpool. These vehicles are liable to be called chit at any hour of the day or night, according to the exigencies of repair work. They are very • frequently seen on the Liverpool dock estate, in attendance nn vessels suffering. from some defect which can only be remedied by the welding " doctor's " van.
