Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

11ie used market will get an injection of fresh products next year;

h re's a prediction of the hottest properties on the forecourt.

ext year will bring several new arrivals onto the used vehicle market. In the tractor sector, look out for two new flee contenders; the Mercedes-Benz Axor and the l'veco Stralis (see page 44). Both were launched in 2002 and supplies are picking up. Mo t used Axors are bei g sold via Merc's dea er network; its lau ch hasfreed up the ctros as a topof-t e-range motor w h has in turn ho sted residuals.

I eco's Stralis is ex cted to be more evenly spread among the franchised and independent networks. MAN ERF's ET was also launched in 2002 but failed to hog the headlines and has evolved. with a TGA cab, into a reliable if uninspiring worker.

The overall trend is still towards big cabs with big engines —420hp is a benchmark for power output. but operators are veering back towards two-axle tractors:This has a lot to do with fuel consumption. It's much better at 40 tonnes than the full 44 and,unless you're into bulk distribution, six axles aren't always justified.The trouble is there aren't many available.

Three years ago the split was in favour of 6x2s and, although the balance has changed, it will take time to filter down to the used market. If you find a decent example it will certainly make money. Construction vehicles are always in demand. If you find an operator who updates his fleet regularly, and plenty do, tippers will provide a decent income.

I veco's EuroCargo is the. hot ticket in the used two-axle sector, even though it's only two years old.The rental fleets are already looking at updating their stock, so supplies are starting to pick up. •
