PALLETLINE boss Glyn Jones is bucking the industry trend by shying away from investing in handheld devices to provide customers with real-time PODs.
He says: "We had a good look at them but decided against the investment for a number of reasons. The main one being that it isn't free. There's a material cost,but what do you get in return? It can only come in three forms — productivity gains, shifting more pallets at the same price or being able to charge preA Jones: Not convinced mium rates. I can't see it generating any of those.
"There's also the problem that the majority of our members aren't just Palletline members but hauliers in their own right. So how do you sell them a system they can't use for all their work? But maybe I'm wrong — we'll have to monitor the situation. "I'm very conscious of the opportunities IT offers for wasting money and I'm really not about that."
