TRANSPORT Secretary Nicholas Ridley has thrown out the National Bus Company's compromise for privatisation.

The plan {CM, October 20) called for groups of profitable and unprofitable companies (none bordering on any of the others) to be sold off as packages. This was a compromise between the Government's plan to break NBC into separate companies and NBC's desire to remain intact.
