Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

There is no set limit on the amount of alcohol or tobacco that can be brought in from EU countries, as long as customs accept it is for personal use. However, bringing in excessive amounts will lead to questions. HMRC staff apply ‘minimum indicative levels’ as guidance. Customs are more likely to ask you questions if you exceed the following amounts:

• Cigarettes: 800 • Cigars: 200 • Tobacco: 1kg • Beer: 110 litres • Wine: 90 litres • Spirits: 10 litres • Fortified wine: 20 litres

If the UKBA believes the goods are being brought in for a commercial purpose, it may seize them and the vehicle in which they are being transported.
