A SEDDON Atkinson 400 eight-wheeler operated by Cheshire County Council is recouping rate-payers' money in addition to carrying out its routine work as a new E30 000 weighbridge testing unit.
When not in use by the Council's Trading Standards Department the unit is hired out to other local authorities and to industry for testing cranes, lifts, bridges and rolling roads.
Supplied by Ryland Warrington the Cummins 250-powered unit with Fuller RTO 9509A gearbox and Eaton 38 DS double-drive axle incorporates a rear-mounted HIAB crane and a body by Lewis & Son of Liverpool.
The unit has 10 tons of block weights used for testing weighbridges and large industrial weighing machines throughout Cheshire.
