Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE West Midland Traffic Commis" sioners intimated at Birmingham on Monday that there was force in the contention that Scots working in Coventry needed a service to Glasgow that would leave after normal working hours on a Friday and, what was more important, return in time for them to start work on a Monday morning.

But the Commissioners deferred their decision on whether the service should be provided by George McGhie, of Binley, Coventry, or jointly by the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., North Western Road Car Co., Ribble Motor Services and Scottish Omnibuses.

Mr. McGhie had originally applied for a direct service between Binley and Coventry and Glasgow in the shape of an excursions and tours licence. The Commissioners, after a four-day hearing, deferred their decision upon learning that other operators proposed applying.

On Monday, Mr. McGhie re-submitted his application, this time for an express service between Binley and Coventry and Glasgow. It would operate outwards on certain Fridays and at holiday periods, returning on Sundays or the corresponding day of the holiday.

The Commissioners deferred their decision until they had heard a joint application by Midland Red, North Western, Ribble and Scottish Omnibuses Ltd.

This was for a service between Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Hamilton and Glasgow. It would operate daily during the summer and at certain Fridays and holiday periods during the winter.

For Midland Red, Mr. F. D. Walker said that there had been a service from Glasgow to the Midlands from the passing of the Road Traffic Act. Following a long battle, the licence for the Birmingham-Glasgow service was given to Northern Roadways, and for the Coventry-Glasgow service to Midland Red. Later, the licence for the direct Birmingham-Glasgow service was transferred to Midland Red. If the application was granted, this licence would be surrendered.

The Commissioners reserved their decision in this case as well.
