Mr. Pruden, the representative of Leyland Motors, Ltd., for South America, is expected to arrive in England early in June.
Mr. E. F. Gait, assistant engineer of the tramways and motors department of Durban Corporation, has recently been appointed transport engineer at Johannesburg.
Mr. Angel, assistant manager of the engineering department of Leyland Motors, Ltd., who has been making an extensive tour of the Near East during which he has collected data relating to the performance of Leyland vehicles in those parts, recently returned to Engle:id. The appointment is announced of Mr. Charles F. Russell, sales manager, as the new general manager of Specialbid, Ltd. Mr. Russell has always been a strong advocate of a firm protection policy for stockists and distributors.
Owing to the illness of Mr. Joseph Farndale, chairman of the Yorksh& Traffic Commissioners, the Yorkshire Commissioners' sitting at Scarborough, on Monday, was presided over by Sir John Maxwell, chairman of the Northern Traffic Commissioners. Mr. Farndale is making satisfactory progress.
Mr. Peter F. Bennett, J.P., managing director of Joseph Lucas, Ltd., was, on May 16, elected president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders for the year 1935-36, in succession to Sir Herbert Austin, K.B.E., who was elected deputy president. Mr. W. E. Rootes and Mr. W. Cowen were elected vice-presidents, whilst Mr. J. A. Thomson, J.P., was re-elected honorary treasurer.
Mr. Charles Holdsworth, of Messrs. Holdsworth and Burrell, Bradford, and Mr. Harold Goodwin, secretary of Blythe and Berwick (1928), Ltd., Bradford, have been appointed roadhaulage representatives on the transport committee of Bradford Chamber of Commerce. Mr. C. F. Calvert, of Oswald Tillotson, Ltd., has also been appointed to the committee as a representative of motor xnanufacturers and traders.
