An Exhibition of Fire-engines, Equipment and Ambulances a Feature of the Professional Fire Brigades' Association Conference

AFULL programme has been arranged for the Professional Fire Brigades' Association Conference, which opens at Scarborough on Wednesday next and continues until Friday, May 31. The programme includes a reception and dance at the Spa Ballroom on Wednesday evening, and the annual luncheon at the Grand

Hotel, on Thursday. Five papers are to be read and on the opening day there is to be an exhibition of fireengines, equipment and ambulances.

Several interesting appliances will be on view, amongst which may be mentioned the Merryweather Greenwich Salamander fire-engine, which is

to be shown by Merryweather and Sons, Ltd. This machine has a fourcylindered petrol engine developing 65 b.h.p., and is equipped with the patent Hatfield 300-400 g.p.m. pump. On the rear footboard is carried an " Xaust-suds "generator for oil fires.

Leyland Motors, Ltd., is to have three interesting machines on view. There will be a 700-gallon outfit, a smaller 400-gallon machine, and an example of its 100-ft. turntable escape, Dennis Bros., Ltd., will show three machines. The Ace 350-450-gallon outfit has an inside-type body and car ries a 30-ft. escape. The second is referred to on page 510 of this issue, and the exhibit is completed by a neat 150-300-gallon trailer pump.

Autofire Protection, Ltd., is showing an interesting air-foam. fire tender, having as its basis a Thornycroft Bulldog chassis. This machine is equipped with two independently controlled mechanical air-foam pumps, and carries ite own • water and saponineextract supply. Fire-brigade equipment and extinguishers of all types are also to be shown by this concern.

A useful machine is the National Utility fire tender, incorporating a Standard 9 h.p. chassis, which will be displayed by the National Fire Protection Co., Ltd. In addition, 'methylbromide extinguishers will be shown.

Ambulances form a specialized part of fire-brigade work, a high-quality vehicle being the Talbot (Clement Talbot, Ltd.), which has a sixcylindered engine. A feature of the chassis is the Talbot preselective gearbox. The hydraulic shock absorbers may be controlled from the steering column. The body, which has heating apparatus, is of the two-stretcher type, a single rear door giving easy access.

Herbert Lomas, Ltd., is to show two ambulances, one having a Vauxhall chassis, being' for Scarborough Corporation. The second machine has as its basis a Ford V8 chassis.

Trailer fire pumps are represented by John Kerr and Co., which is showing the Drysdale Ford-powered trailer.
