george.barrow@rbi.co.uk STOBART IRELAND has taken delivery of 117 new trailers from SDC in addition to 20 new rigid and drawbar combination trailers for Eddie Stobart.

The trailers, which took more than ive weeks to produce, are the irst manufactured speciically for Stobart Ireland in SDC’s Irish manufacturing plant, and will be used as part of the irm’s contract with supermarket chain Tesco. In total, 92 of the curtain-sided semitrailers have been itted with Dhollandia tail-lifts to aid direct store deliveries, while the new SDC drawbar trailers will be used on high volume loads.

SDC Trailers MD Mark Cuskeran says: “We are pleased to continue our ongoing relationship with Stobart Group and delighted that we have supplied bespoke trailers for its operations in Ireland.

“Our diverse product range complements Stobart’s full series of multimodal activities and we look forward to building the relationship even further.” SDC has also recently produced 20 new refrigerated trailers for Stobart’s chilled operations in the UK, and last year delivered 300 curtainsiders to Stobart Group.

William Stobart, chief operating oficer of Stobart Group, says: “The new trailers for Stobart Ireland are part of our ongoing leet replacement and will directly replace decommissioned trailers.

“They will be used predominantly for local internal distribution in Ireland where Stobart Ireland is handling the transport for two Tesco regional distribution centres.

“We’ve speciied tail-lifts for these new SDC trailers to make store deliveries more eficient.” Stobart adds: “The drawbars are again direct replacements for vehicles that have been decommissioned and we will continue to make use of their increased capacity for distribution contracts involving high-volume, low-weight loads.”
