FOUR NEW VOLVO FMX tippers have arrived at Continental Plant Services for use in the irm’s scrap metal and waste recycling business.

CPS leet co-ordinator Martin Whiley says: “We’ve always run Volvos, and the new product looked good on paper. We’re getting a 6mpg average on local work in town, which is good. We’ve been impressed, the drivers like them and it’s a tidy product with everything around the back end tucked up out of the way. It’s clearly been built for muck shifting.” Since this week’s cover star (turn to p42 to see how Leiths, pictured, is using them) was launched last April, Volvo says it has sold nearly 5,000 FMX units worldwide. “Sales of the Volvo FMX have exceeded our expectations,” says Claes Nilsson, president of Volvo Trucks’ European division. “After just two months, we had sold half the forecast total for 2011. This demand is conirmation we have succeeded in meeting customers’ needs and adapting to their tough and demanding working environments.”
