Allports Truck Centre seems to have polished up its ‘rough diamond’ of a website

Words: James Clark

Company: Allports Truck Centre Address: www.allports-trucks.co.uk

Homepage

The last time Webwatch visited Renault Trucks approved distributor Allports Truck Centre, we described its website as a “rough diamond” and warned readers: “Don’t be put off by its appearance.”

But that was back in July 2009, and we are pleased to report that the site has had a complete makeover since then and now looks bang up to date.

To access the stock list, either click on ‘Vehicle Finder’ in the left-hand vertical menu or use one of the quick links in the centre of the homepage to go straight through to trucks, vans or trailers.

Product search

Once you are in the stock list, use the checkboxes near the top to select the type of vehicle you are interested in, or tick ‘all’ for the complete listing. The button above this lets you swap between ‘used’ and ‘new’ – the default being ‘used’.

Results can be sorted by age of advert, by age of truck, or alphabetically. For each relevant item, the site displays a thumbnail image (something missing from the site’s previous incarnation) and gives a description, spec and GVW.

Click on the ‘More Info’ link for further details, such as registration number and mileage. At this stage you will also be able to browse through half a dozen well-taken photos showing the vehicle from various angles, internal and external; click on any of these for a larger version in a pop-up window.

Price is on application only – so if you want to find out more, click on ‘enquire’ and complete the short online form to request a callback. Alternatively, select ‘print spec’ to download a PDF spec sheet.

The final feature of the product page is the ‘You may also be interested in’ box at the bottom. This suggests alternative items of stock, although some of its recommendations are interesting: when viewing a Ford Transit 350, the first alternative was a Volvo FL6
