IVECO HOPES to use this year's CV Show as a springboard to turn around disappointing sales figures in the heavyweight sector.

At a recent press event UK market director Chris ThorneycroftSmith revealed a downturn in sales of 17.5% at 18 tonnes "where we took our eye off the ball",and a drop of more than 30% in tractor sales.

But these results, while below expectation, are tempered by considerable success in the lightweight categories. Iveco's share of the van market (2.8-6.5 tonnes) has increased to 6.5% (fourth in terms of sales); and in the heavyweight van sector (3.51-6.5 tonnes) it claims leadership with a 32.2% share.

Making its debut at the show will be a new engine in the Daily van. The current 2.8-litre engine is replaced with a 3.0-litre 'high performance turbine' (FT) common-rail turbo-diesel with power outputs of 136 and 166hp. There's also a new 2.3-litre HPT diesel rated at 136hp.They drive through a ZF-based Agile auto/manual clutchless transmission.

Also showing will be the multiaxle Trakker: the revamped 4x4, 6x4 and 8x4 line-up supersedes the Eurotrakker range.

Finally, Iveco will be launching a top-of-the-range tractor option. The Executive Space will feature metallic paint, a chrome finish, two-tone interior, air-con, remote locking and roof-mounted air horns as standard.
