Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Actros 1858 MegaSpace Executive 4x2

Tester's impression: Climb up into Meres top-of-the-range Actros and you're greeted by a spacious interior with a flat floor. Thanks to the semi-auto 'paddle on the driver's armrest, there's no gearstick to obstruct cross-cab movement, and the dashboard doesn't protrude too far into the cab space. The passenger seat folds up to give even more room, and there's unlikely to be anyone in the seat to object as this is strictly a one-man cab —there's only one bunk so you can sit up in bed without bumping your head.

There are cupboards above the bunk, a big corner cupboard up behind the driver's seat, a microwave hidden behind a roller-door, a coffee maker (if only we'd remembered our ground coffee), and a fridge above the passenger's seat. Below the bunk there's a pull-out cool box, with a drawer and a small pull-out table. Three roomy lockers are mounted above the windscreen, but watch your fingers as they shut with a decisive snap. You also get cubby holes at either end of the bunk, above the driver's head and on the dashboard; most of them are a perfect fit for specific items.

We'd been warned that the curtains had to be out of the way of the air vents at the side of the dashboard, as Merc's night heater pumps throughout the cab, rather than just through one spot. Once the thick black curtains had been arranged we turned our attention to the night heater.

It's controlled via the main control system, which means switching on the ignition until the display comes on, then using the buttons to scroll through to the night heater screen and setting the temperature. The heater will then maintain it automatically. This is fine for people who know exactly what temperature they require, but it's a bit tiresome if you set it too high then have to get into the driver's seat in the middle of the night to go through the whole thing again. To be fair, if you're sleeping out on a regular basis you won't find this a problem.

And while we couldn't quite get to grips with the temperature control we have nothing but praise for the Megaspace cab's one-piece mattress. It's comfortable, plenty big enough and better than many domestic mattresses—definitely conducive to a good night's sleep.

Switches for the cab lights (which can be dimmed to suit your mood), the radio and night heater are in easy reach on a wall-mounted control panel behind the passenger seat. There's a light on the wall too, and another on a bendy stalk if you need more light to read by.

Overall, we had a good night's sleep in the Actros, and while we didn't hit it off initially with the night heater, it won't be a problem for a regular driver. Marc has tried hard to please drivers with this cab, and if we were doing long-distance work it would certainly be high on our shopping list.
