ptARTON TRANSPORT LTD. and 14 of its '2". drivers were fined at Nottingham last week for a total of 32 offences connected with drivers' rest periods during day trips to the seaside.

The firm admitted 16 charges of allowing men to drive coaches without 10 consecutive hours' rest in a 24-hour period. It was fined £2 in each case.

Thirteen of the drivers pleaded guilty to driving without sufficient rest and were fined £1 each. A driver who admitted three offences was fined £3.

The offences involved long trips made to resorts including Skegness and Blackpool and were discovered after a check on 800 records covering a three-month period.

No accidents had occurred during the period. Since the offences, special instructions had been issued by the company.

COAL HANDLING SHOW

Sir Stanley Raymond, chairman of British Railways Board, will open this year's Coal Handling Exhibition at British Railways' Nine Elms freight depot in London from May 23-25.
