)EPORTS from America indicate that vehicle production has started to screase again, following a recent fall-off orders. The Wight Motor Co., leveland, Ohio, for instance, has tepped-up its production schedules of eavy vehicles by 10 per cent., whilst the aternational Harvester concern also :ports an increase in business, and has !called about 3,440 employees who were tid off last November.
The annual report of General Motors 1orporation, Detroit, reveals that 1.M.C. sold more cars and lorries in 1960 an in any other year except 1955. irorld-wide sales were 4,661,000 units-21 er cent. .higher than in 1959. The 1959 des figures, however, were partly ttributable to a steel strike which ccurred in that year: this reduced roduction towards the end of that year, ut resulted in increased demand during se first quarter of 1960.
7IGURES issued in the 1960 planned economy reports of a number of Iron urtain countries include the following: the Soviet Union some 385,000 goods :hides and buses were produced last mr, 4 per cent. more than the previous !ar. Trolleybus production rose by per cent, from 563 to 605 units.
Czechoslovakia produced 16,000 goods !hides in 1960, 9,4 per cent, more than le previous year's total of 15,000 units. oland increased its goods vehicle output y 28.8 per cent., from 15,200 to 19,500.
