ik NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS coach 1-1proprietor said last week he intended to beat the ban of the Traffic Commissioners and continue to run a service daily from Newton-le-Willows to Leigh with 41 women who work at a Leigh factory.
Earlier in the day, at Leigh magistrates' court, the man, Harry Harrop, of Victoria • Road, 'Newton-le7WilIows, pleaded guilty to operating the service without a licence and Was fined 12.
"There was no point in my applying for a public service vehicle licence because I know it would never have been granted," said Mr. I4arrop. "I will form a syndicate."
He said he was approached by the women themselves to start the service. "When I told them that I had to appear at court and suggested they should become shareholders, they jumped at the opportunity," he said. The Articles of Association making the women shareholders had all been drawn up legally, he said.
LEYLAND STEP OUT
LEYLAND'S annual ball is as popular as the company's products. A packed house of 4,600 people will be at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, tonight, for this year's event. So many applications for tickets were received, in fact, that more than 600 people had to be disappointed.
Dancers from 150 parts of Lancashire will be picked up in a fleet of 75 Leyland buses and coaches operated by Ribble Motor Services, Ltd.
