Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE FREIGHT TRANSPORT Association and representatives of several major operators have met Transport Minister Tony McNulty to discuss the problem of parking tickets in London.

Securicor, Exel's Tradeteam division and UPS all report parking fines are costing them a crippling £1m a year in London— and they say the situation is getting worse.

The group is calling on McNulty to get together with London Mayor Ken Livingstone and the local borough councils to resolve this issue.

Steve Barry, site manager for Tradeteam, says drivers are unable to do their job properly because traffic wardens are slapping tickets on windscreens."One crew had 10 fines in one day," he says. "We have the pictures to prove it. This is also affecting the ability to serve our customers. We appeal to the authorities and advise the councils when we are making deliveries in advance but we are ignored."

Sarah Watkins, the FTA's London and South-East regional policy manager, says: "We want the government to look at the lack of parking provisions for trucks and why so many parking fines are being handed out when all companies are trying to do is make a delivery.

"The minister's response was positive but we won't be cracking open the champagne [yet]."
