Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PAUL WATSON, the British haulier jailed in France for allegedly smuggling £500,000 of cannabis, has finally been released on bail after nine months in prison awaiting trial.

Watson was stunned when he was released last Thursday (17 June) on the payment of €3000. He is lodging with a British couple, Andrew and Jayne Knight, in the Pas de Calais region, where he must stay until the French courts decide whether to pursue his case.

Watson says: "I'm tired but extremely relieved. It's wonderful to be out in the fresh air after being cooped up in a cell for so long. I can't thank my friends, family or my fiancée Sarah enough for their support."

Watson, owner of Leeds-based Principal Logistics, had flown to Spain to pick up a tractor from a former employee. While he was there, he was asked to take a loaded trailer to San Sebastian and told another driver would meet him en route. However, the driver failed to turn up so Watson agreed to take the trailer to Gent in Belgium.

He was subsequently stopped on the Al in Lille by French Customs who discovered a tonne of cannabis in his load of pottery (CM 4 December 2003).
