A simmering rivalry that had been brewing between an AA man and an RAC man boiled over into violence in a Norfolk shopping centre recently.

Fifty-six-year-old AA salesman David Barnes did not quite live up to the AA's "very, very nice man" slogan when he attacked RAC man Frank Pickering, who is in his 60s, throwing him against metal fencing, knocking him over and kicking him. The feud had started as the pair competed to sign up members. Barnes says he snapped when Pickering began photographing his stall, claiming it carried mis leading advertising. Magistrates in Norwich bound him over to keep the peace and Barnes has since been sacked as an AA agent Oh dear, a case of lashing out in haste and repenting at leisure.
