• Foden Trucks has increased its 400-strong workforce by 20% over the past two months, said CM Pigott, chairman of the American truck builder Paccar, on his twice-yearly visit to the Sandbach-based company. Foden has recently added two dealers to its list of around 20 and is considering another four outlets. With production running at four units a day there is much spare capacity at the plant, which at one time under a previous owner produced up to 30 a day.
Paccar's recent interest in the demise of Leyland Dal did not extend to the plant at Leyland, only to the product, and no bid was made. "Taking on more capacity did not make sense to us. Leyland has a real challenge ahead," says Pigott.
