THE manner in which a bodybuilder

and a customer can co-operate to produce a vehicle to meet a specific requirement is exemplified in a body recently completed by Duramin Engineering Co., Ltd., Standard Road, Park Royal, London, N.W.10.

The operators were Callard and Bowser, Ltd., and the problem was bound up in pallet loading and the protection of the large number of tins of confectionery from the effects of vibration in transit.

As the pallets had to be of standard design tbe use of ones adapted for webbing straps, to stabilize the load, had to be ruled out.

Basically, the body evolved is of the drop-sided type, with a partition running longitudinally from end to end. Each side is further sub-divided into six compartments in order to limit the tendency of the loads to topple in a fore-and-aft direction.

Each pallet load is encased in a duralumin cage constructed to be readily placed in position and removed. A particularly smart appearance is imparted to the body by introducing sectioned roller shutters above the drop sides, an essential in protecting the load against the weather.

Duralumin is used throughout the body, which is 17 ft. 11 in. long and weighs approximately 251 cwt. The cab is built also of light alloy and weighs 21. cwt.

By employing double-skin construction for the drop sides, not only was it possible to achieve a flush finish inside and outside, but great rigidity and strength have resulted without any appreciable increase in weight.
